## Insurance Capital Layers (ICLs)

The ICL is an upgradeable, role-controlled vault and the interface between depositors and the rest of the protocol. It accepts KYC-approved deposits (ERC-20 and native), mints ShareToken shares via the Share Price Calculator, tracks deposit fees, manages custodians, locks balances for redemption or collateral use, and exposes admin and operator controls for pausing.

## Core Protocol Contracts

**Decentralized Fund.** Upgradeable, role-controlled manager. Stores core addresses (operator, treasury, recipient, KYC registry, pool registry), lets the operator update those settings, and creates new ICL instances via a factory.

**Share Price Calculator.** Maintains the global share price and converts between deposit token amounts and shares using token-specific price oracles, with validation and decimal scaling.

**KYC Registry.** Role-based registry. A KYC admin manages providers, and providers approve or revoke KYC status for user addresses.

## Governance and Access Control

The protocol uses UUPS upgradeability with a 48-hour timelock and no bypass. Upgrades are proposed and executed by governance under a 3-of-5 multisig. Day-to-day roles are split across four dedicated controller wallets, with no single admin key.

**Timelock.** OpenZeppelin TimelockController enforcing a 2-day (172,800 second) delay between scheduling and executing privileged actions. Holds `DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE` and `UPGRADER_ROLE` over the reUSD ICL, reUSDe ICL, reUSD token, and reUSDe token.

**Controller wallets**

Multi-party computation (MPC) is a cryptographic signing scheme where a private key is split across multiple independent parties, meaning no single person ever holds the full key. To authorize a transaction, a minimum threshold of parties must jointly sign. A label like "MPC 3-of-5" means any three of five key holders must approve before the wallet can act. Re uses MPC wallets (via Fireblocks) for custody sweeps and protocol controller roles, so a single compromised key cannot move funds or change critical settings on its own.
