# Re and Cover Re

Cover Re SPC Ltd. appears throughout these docs, so it is worth separating it clearly from Re Protocol:

* Re Protocol is a DeFi protocol that sources capital from the DeFi markets to provide the collateral that backs reinsurance contracts. It is administered by the Resilience Foundation.
* Cover Re SPC Ltd. is a reinsurer licensed and based in the Cayman Islands. It acts in partnership with Re Protocol to provide the capital to a reinsurer that uses it as collateral to back reinsurance contracts.

Re Protocol is the DeFi layer through which depositors provide the collateral. Cover Re SPC deploys that collateral into real-world reinsurance treaties, from which depositors earn yield backed by real-world reinsurance premiums.

Resilience Foundation and Cover Re SPC are distinct entities. Cover Re SPC is unaffiliated with the Resilience Foundation.

Cover Re SPC Ltd is Re Protocol's first official reinsurance partner. Partnerships with additional reinsurance providers are planned in the future.
